Mark Nitzberg

Mark Nitzberg is Executive Director (interim) of the new International Association for Safe and Ethical Artificial Intelligence, an independent organization committed to ensuring advanced AI systems are guaranteed to operate safely and ethically. Since 2016, as Executive Director of the Center for Human-Compatible AI (CHAI) at UC Berkeley, Nitzberg has focused on both technical solutions and governance frameworks for managing increasingly powerful AI systems. His career spans pioneering research and leadership roles at Bell Laboratories, Microsoft and Amazon, and founding technology ventures in healthcare, finance, education, and sustainable development. Nitzberg earned his PhD from Harvard University under the guidance of renowned mathematician David Mumford.
