Michael Tessler

Senior research scientist, Google DeepMind

Michael Henry (“MH”) Tessler is a senior research scientist at Google DeepMind, where he works on the safety, alignment and societal impacts of large language models. He is also deeply interested in the potential for LLMs to support and scale human deliberation. Before becoming an AI researcher, Tessler was a cognitive scientist; he completed his Ph.D. at Stanford University and performed postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Recent publications he has co-authored include "AI Can Help Humans Find Common Ground in Democratic Deliberation" (Science, 2024); "How Will Advanced AI Systems Impact Democracy?" (arXiv preprint, 2024); and "Language Agents as Digital Representatives in Collective Decision-Making" (Neural Information Processing Systems [NeurIPS] conference, 2023).
