Max Tegmark

Professor, MIT and Director Future of Life Institute

Max Tegmark is a professor at MIT, working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and physics within the Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Fundamental Interactions and the Center for Brains, Minds, and Machines. His research focuses on AI safety, including mechanistic interpretability and designing systems with guaranteed safety, as well as using machine learning to detect news bias. Tegmark is author of "Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” and co-founder of the Future of Life Institute, where he advocates for responsible AI development. Named one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in AI in 2023, he continues to explore AI’s societal impacts and governance.
